Our Advocacy and Focus

At Solutions Not Suspensions (SNS), we are dedicated to dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline, and promoting policies and practices that foster positive school climates for all students. Because of SNS, Minnesota has put into law the K-3 ban on suspensions, the K-3 Ban on seclusions, the Pupil Fair Dismissal Act, the Right to Recess, the ban on prone restraints by public school employees (non SROs), and the creation of first ever Model Policy for School Resource Officers. Centered in our advocacy is the need to make sure all children are treated with dignity and respect. In Minnesota, we have some the worst racial disparities for BIPOC children in the United States. Our Black students and our students with dispabilities have been continuously left behind in our current system. We must take action.

At SNS we advocate against discriminatory discipline practices, increased school policing, and student surveillance. We are dedicated to advancing legislation that protects the dignity of students, and providing pathways for success and restoration. Instead of criminalizing our children in schools, SNS is focused on advocating for alternatives and stopping the over criminalization of our disability and BIPOC communities.
